GO THE EXTRA MILE (Matthew 5:41)

Matthew 5:41 (NIV), Colossians 3:23

And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two. If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles.If the military demand that you carry their gear for a mile, carry it two. And should people in authority take advantage of you, do more than what they demand. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as though you were working for the Lord and not for people.

Every time you go the extra mile, you are increasing your capacity. Every time you choose to go out of your comfort zone, you are refusing to limit yourself that level. Joshua went with Moses to the Tabernacle to meet with God, and after Moses left, Joshua stayed back longer in God’s presence, (Exo.33:11). At age 12 when Jesus’ biological family was leaving the temple, Jesus stayed back for 3 days to listen and ask questions to the teachers of the Law, to prepare Himself for doing His Heavenly Father’s business. As David went the extra mile to kill the bear and the lion (instead of giving excuses), he was building his capacity to face Goliath. David only wished he could drink water from the wells of Jerusalem and three of his men went the extra mile to fight through the Philistine army to fetch that water for him, (2Sam.23:15-16). When Elisha told King Joash to strike the ground with some arrows, the king struck the ground three times and stopped. Elisha was very angry with him and said if he had struck more times he would have had more and complete victory over the Syrian army, (2Kings 13:18-19).

Beloved, spare not, (Isa.54:2). Stop holding back. Use your initiative. Rely on the help of the Spirit. Go the extra mile spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, etc. Go the extra mile in your giving too.
Prayer;
Heavenly Father, I thank you for the grace you have given me to go the extra mile in all areas of my life.
(Matthew 5:41)
